Assam: Morigaon DC stunned as majority of employees in govt offices missing till 11 am

Morigaon district commissioner Debashish Sharma today made a surprised visit to the DC office and a few other offices nearby only to discover that about 90 per cent of employees in these offices had not turned up till 11 am.

Sharma saw the absence of about 90 per cent of the officers and staff in the office and termed it unfortunate. He expressed his displeasure over the matter and ordered a half-day cut from the casual leave of officers and employees who did not reach the office till 11 am.

Expressing strong displeasure over the non-existence working culture atmosphere in the offices, he said that the office of the district commissioner is the backbone of the entire administrative system. The irregular attendance of officers and staff in such an office and non-attendance on time is sure to have an adverse impact on the entire work culture, he said.

The DC also told the staff that if a single common man has to return from office due to the absence of the concerned officer or staff, then there is nothing more unfortunate for the administrative system, the commissioner said. If this happens, people will lose faith in the district administration, he added.

He made it clear that legal action would be taken in the coming days if the officers and employees do not reach the office on time. He also said that he would visit every government office in the district on a surprise basis and supervise the presence of officers and employees.
