The Morigaon district marked the opening of Language Pride Week with a heartfelt inaugural event that highlighted both cultural pride and community spirit. During the event’s first-day proceedings, a memorable moment unfolded when District Commissioner Devashish Sharma displayed exceptional compassion by assisting a student who suddenly collapsed. As the iconic Assamese song "Chir Senehi Mor Bhasha Jononi" ("My Ever-Beloved Mother Tongue") played, Sharma personally carried the student and promptly arranged for medical assistance, earning widespread appreciation from the attendees.
In observance of Language Pride Week (Bhasha Gaurav Saptah), the Morigaon district administration organized an extensive cultural procession, which saw an enthusiastic turnout of nearly five thousand participants, including men, women, students, and representatives from various organizations. Gathering at the Morigaon School playground, participants defied the scorching sun to celebrate Assam’s linguistic and cultural heritage in a vibrant display of unity.
The colorful procession was officially flagged off by Morigaon Constituency MLA Ramakanta Deuri, accompanied by District Commissioner Devashish Sharma and Superintendent of Police Hemanta Kumar Das.
The officials joined hands to lead the celebration, which underscored the district’s commitment to preserving and promoting Assamese language and culture. The event marks a lively beginning to Language Pride Week, as Morigaon residents come together to honor their linguistic roots and showcase the rich traditions of their heritage.
