Assam: Morigaon police bust motorcycle theft racket, 3 arrested

Morigaon police arrested three individuals allegedly involved in a series of motorcycle thefts across the district. A press briefing was held at the Sadar Police Station where the Officer-in-Charge detailed the operation and subsequent arrests.

The investigation began following the arrest of Manik Ali, a resident of Silongoni in Nagaon, who was caught stealing a motorcycle from central Morigaon. Acting on information provided by Ali during interrogation, a police team conducted a raid at Udmari village under the jurisdiction of Juria Police Station.

During the raid at the residence of Roijuddin, police recovered a number of stolen items, including:

A TVS motorcycle bearing registration number AS 02 AN 9646

A red Splendor motorcycle without a registration plate

Petrol tanks from red and black Glamour motorcycles

Seven motorcycle suspensions

Several other dismantled motorcycle parts

Roijuddin was subsequently taken into custody. According to the police, the accused used to purchase stolen motorcycles for as low as ₹4,000 to ₹5,000, dismantle them, and sell the parts separately in the illegal market.

In a related development, the police also arrested Dulal Uddin, a resident of Dhing, who was attempting to flee after stealing a Glamour motorcycle with registration number AS 12 Z 0323 from the Moirabari area.

Police officials confirmed that further investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify other members of the theft syndicate.
