A scandal has emerged in the Morigaon district of Assam. Numerous young women have been misled and sent to distant states like Chennai and Bangalore under the false pretense of job opportunities in Tata’s upcoming semiconductor project in Jagiroad. The project, which is yet to commence, has already become a breeding ground for fraudulent activities.
Thousands of young women from various parts of Morigaon district have fallen victim to this deceit. The key figures behind this scandal, Jatin Hazarika, Amlanjit Das, Ranjan Kumar Lahak, and Dhanmoni Kalita, have orchestrated this exploitation.
A resident speaking to the media said, "His name is Jatin Hazarika. There was an online discussion for 15 days with the girls. He took all the details of the girls and said that they would be sent for a training period of one year and then they would come back and join the upcoming Tata semiconductor project in Jagiroad. We were assuming that these girls went to have training there. However, a couple of days back we got to know that this agency has no connection with Tata."
She further added, "Rather they take our girls and have engaged them in works which are not secured. There is no security, a few days back a girl left the place without informing anything to anyone. Likewise, anyone may get in with ill motives as there is no security. There are 400-500 girls in that hostel who are kept without protection, without any security guard."
The modus operandi involves luring these women through the CII - MCC based in Rihabari, Guwahati. Promised lucrative job prospects and comprehensive facilities, the unsuspecting women were transported to Chennai and Bangalore. However, upon arrival, they encountered numerous hardships and unfulfilled promises, leaving them stranded and vulnerable.
In response to this alarming situation, the Jagiroad civic body and the distressed parents of the affected women have lodged a formal complaint at the Jagiroad police station. They are urging immediate action to rectify this grave injustice.
The aggrieved parents are demanding that the company, which purportedly has its headquarters in Gurgaon, take swift measures to bring back the young women who were deceived by these fraudulent promises. The Jagiroad Civic Body has also issued a public appeal, urging people to be vigilant and not fall prey to such unscrupulous activities.
