Assam: Morigaon's District Institute of Education and Training to host international environment seminar

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Morigaon, in collaboration with Cotton University and Bodoland University, will organise a two-day international seminar on June 5 and 6 to mark World Environment Day.

The seminar, to be held in both online and offline modes, will focus on the theme “Environment at the Crossroads: Balancing Development with Sustainability.” The programme aims to encourage research-based discussions on environmental challenges, climate change, sustainable development, and the role of education in addressing ecological concerns.

The inaugural session on June 5 will be opened by DIET Morigaon Principal Kishore Kumar Das. Renowned environmentalist Jadav Payeng will attend as the keynote speaker. Other distinguished speakers include Jahnavi Barua Wolf, currently based in France, and Nilotpol Mahanta.

Several academicians and environmental experts from universities and institutions across India and abroad will participate as resource persons during the two-day event. Discussions will focus on environmental conservation, climate solutions, sustainable development practices, indigenous knowledge systems, biodiversity protection and environmental education.

The seminar will also witness the formal release of DIET Morigaon’s annual educational journal, “Rashmi.”

According to organisers, invitations have been extended to Assam’s Education Minister, the Education Department Secretary and the Director of SCERT to attend the valedictory programme.

The event is being coordinated by senior lecturer Sanghita Malini Barua with support from senior lecturer Suprabha Malini and other faculty members and staff of DIET Morigaon.

Organisers said the seminar is expected to bring together scholars, researchers, educators and environmentalists to deliberate on balancing developmental needs with environmental sustainability in an era of growing ecological challenges.
