Dhubri district committee of the Garia Maria Desi Jatiya Parishad has launched an attack on MP Rakibul Hussain, questioning his commitment to addressing key issues in the region.
At a press conference in Gauripur, the organisation accused Hussain of neglecting Dhubri’s developmental needs and diverting funds to Lakhimpur to gain favour with state Congress leader Bhupen Bora.
A major point of contention was the alleged bias of Dhubri police in enforcing traffic laws. District president Afzalur Rahman questioned why the police failed to penalise MP Hussain and MLA Abdus Sobhan Ali Sarkar for riding motorcycles without helmets during a rally.
He accused law enforcement of selectively targeting ordinary citizens while allowing politicians to violate rules with impunity. The Superintendent of Police was urged to clarify whether any action was taken after the matter was highlighted in the media.
Another major concern raised was the so-called "Dhubri Syndicate." The organisation criticized MP Hussain for failing to take a firm stand against the alleged syndicate controlling various operations in the district. Instead of concrete action, they claimed he limited his response to media statements.
Further allegations suggested that a Congress MLA closely associated with Hussain was directly benefiting from the illegal activities of the syndicate. Despite previously announcing an agitation against the network, the MLA had allegedly failed to act, raising suspicions of financial involvement.
The Garia Maria Desi Jatiya Parishad condemned MP Hussain’s performance and demanded accountability. They warned that if the pressing concerns of Dhubri continued to be ignored, the organisation would escalate protests.
