Assam: Multi-vehicle collision on NH-27 in Chirang claims one life, several injured

A devastating multi-vehicle collision on National Highway 27 near Kashikotra in Assam's Chirang district claimed the life of a young man and left several others seriously injured on Tuesday, July 22, afternoon.

 

The fatal crash, which occurred under unclear circumstances, involved at least six vehicles, including both small and large passenger carriers. The deceased has been identified as Namit Gayari, a resident of Basugaon, who succumbed to injuries at the scene due to the severity of the impact.

 

Gayari’s sister, Ritu Gayari, sustained critical injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby medical facility. According to hospital authorities, her condition remains grave.

 

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of utter chaos in the aftermath of the accident, with mangled vehicles scattered across the highway and distressed cries from the injured echoing through the area. Local residents and passersby quickly responded, providing initial aid before police and emergency services arrived.

 

The district traffic police have cordoned off the accident site and initiated a formal investigation to ascertain the cause. Preliminary findings indicate that one vehicle may have lost control, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving several others.

 

The incident caused significant traffic disruption on NH-27, a key transit route in the region, with vehicular movement halted for hours. Police teams are working to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow.
