Assam Muslim doctor alleges threats following conversion to Hinduism, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma orders probe
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 3 ordered a probe in a case pertaining to a doctor, formerly a Muslim, who claimed that her life is at risk ever since she is converted to Hinduism.
In a video, which is going viral on the internet, the doctor identified as Dr. Alima Akhtar, claims that her family is pressuring her into an unwanted marriage with a Maulana.
Dr Akhtar, shared her harrowing experience in a video posted on a social media platform.
''I willingly chose to convert to Hinduism, but ever since, my family members have been making threats against me. They have fabricated a false case with the police, claiming I was being abducted. However, I want to clarify through this post that I am in good health and currently at an airport. I have distanced myself from my family as they are attempting to coerce me into marrying a much older Maulana. They believe that such a marriage would bring me "jannat" in my life,'' she said in a video.
Dr Akhtar, who has been working in the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, asserted she is happy in her present life and wants to keep a distance from her family.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 3 said instructed the state DGP, G P Singh to look into the matter following which the police have launched a probe into this.
