Mystery continue to shroud over the death of a 22-year-old youth in Nabaibil village, West Karbi Anglong, nearly four weeks after his body was found under suspicious circumstances.
Despite a formal complaint and serious allegations involving six individuals, no arrests have been made, and no FIR has been registered, sparking outrage and concern within the community.
The deceased, Sanjay Chauhan, was found dead on the morning of May 26, 2025, under what appeared to be suicide by hanging. However, the timeline leading up to his death has raised troubling questions.
According to the family, Sanjay returned home from work on the evening of May 25, spent time laughing and chatting with family members, had dinner, and spoke with his wife over the phone before going to bed. His wife was visiting her maternal home in Hojai at the time. Sanjay, by all appearances, was in good spirits and showed no signs of distress.
The next morning, when he failed to wake up, his sister-in-law discovered him hanging in his room, prompting immediate alarm.
The family is not convinced it was a suicide. Days before the incident, a land dispute reportedly arose between Sanjay's family and some neighbors. Citing this tension, Sanjay’s family lodged a complaint at the Mailoo Police Outpost against six persons: Yugeshwar Chauhan, Adeshwar Chauhan, Surendra Chauhan, Dhara Chauhan, Shyambihari Chauhan, and Phuleshwar Chauhan.
Despite the complaint, family members claim that no formal investigation has been initiated, and the accused remain at large.
Sanjay’s wife, mother, and grandfather have pleaded for intervention and a transparent probe into what they believe could be a pre-planned murder disguised as suicide.
