Assam: Mystery shrouds death of young army personnel from Bilasipara, family demands fair probe

Mystery shrouds Athiyabari village in Bilasipara, Assam following the untimely death of a young Indian Army jawan, Hridayjit Nath, who reportedly passed away while on duty.

The 21-year-old soldier, who served in the 313 Artillery Regiment of the Indian Army’s Agniveer division, had joined the force two years ago. After successfully completing his training, he was posted at the Hatigarh Army Camp in Assam’s Udalguri district.

According to reports, the family was informed by army authorities that Hridayjit had died during duty hours. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, prompting widespread concern among locals and community groups.

Late at night, Hridayjit’s mortal remains were brought back to his native village, where hundreds of grieving residents gathered to pay their final respects. He was accorded full military honors, and his last rites were performed at the village cremation ground amid heart-wrenching scenes.

The bereaved family, along with several local organizations, has demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the cause of his death. They have also appealed to the government to extend financial assistance, as Hridayjit was the sole breadwinner of his economically struggling family.
