Assam: Nagaon bypoll candidate Abdul Salam refuses to change election symbol
Trinamool Congress candidate Abdul Salam has rejected an appeal to change his election symbol ahead of the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.
Salam had filed his nomination as the TMC candidate for the bypoll. However, the candidate has been left in a difficult position after the Election Commission temporarily withdrew recognition of the Trinamool Congress’ name and election symbol.
Following the development, the administration appealed to Salam to opt for a different election symbol. However, Salam has refused to accept the request and maintained his position as a TMC candidate.
The development comes ahead of the Nagaon bypoll, with the status of the TMC’s name and symbol becoming a key issue for Salam’s candidature.
