Assam: Nagaon Forest Department seizes equipment in illegal sand mining raid in Juria
The Nagaon Forest Department conducted a raid against alleged illegal sand mining at Tinsukia village in Juria following complaints from local residents.
During the operation, forest officials seized a sand-extraction machine, a pump and pipes allegedly used for extracting sand.
According to allegations, sand had been extracted for a long period from a pond belonging to local resident Zakir Hussain without the required permission.
Residents further alleged that sand was being extracted using machinery and boring methods, causing damage to houses and homesteads located near the pond.
Acting on the complaints, the Forest Department launched an operation at the site and seized the equipment used for sand extraction.
However, no person was arrested during the operation.
Forest department officials declined to comment in detail to the media but said that questioning and further inquiry into the alleged illegal sand mining were underway.
The department is expected to ascertain whether the sand extraction was carried out without the required permissions and whether it caused damage to nearby properties.
