The Nagaon district administration is preparing to launch a massive eviction drive in Hatichong Mouza, following the government plants to clear of encroachment in Uriamghat, Golaghat.
According to an official notification issued by the Nagaon Sadar Revenue Circle Officer, the eviction drive will target large-scale encroachments in two locations under Hatichong Mouza—Garoi Mari Pathar Kichamator’s Government Grazing Reserve No. 72, and Bogoriguri Pam Kichamator’s Government Grazing Reserves No. 62 and 63.
These government-designated grazing lands have allegedly been illegally occupied, with multi-storied structures being erected and unauthorized pond excavation carried out by individuals reportedly of questionable background.
The sudden issuance of the eviction notice during the night hours has reportedly triggered fear and tension among local settlers, many of whom now face imminent displacement.
Sources indicate that the operation is part of a broader, statewide initiative to reclaim government land, especially Village and Professional Grazing Reserves (VGRs and PGRs), which have long been under encroachment.
Officials stated that law enforcement agencies will be deployed during the eviction to ensure the drive proceeds peacefully and without obstruction.
The administration has urged residents to cooperate with authorities and vacate the land voluntarily to avoid forceful eviction and legal consequences.
