Assam: Nearly 4-km PMGSY road in Assam’s Kaliabor deteriorates, commuters face hardship

A nearly four-kilometre rural road connecting Bamuni via Dalgaon to the four-lane National Highway 127 at Borbhagiya in Assam’s Kaliabor has deteriorated severely, leaving commuters struggling to travel along a route that has remained in need of repairs for a prolonged period.

The road, constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and maintained under the Public Works Department, has developed multiple small and large potholes along several stretches. The deteriorating surface has made the road increasingly difficult to navigate and has affected regular vehicular movement.

Residents and commuters using the road have been facing difficulties due to its poor condition, particularly as the damaged stretches have become largely unfit for normal traffic.

Despite the road having been in a deteriorated state for a considerable period, repairs have reportedly not been undertaken. The worsening condition has raised concerns among local residents who depend on the road for daily transportation and connectivity to the National Highway.

The road’s condition has also highlighted concerns over the maintenance of rural connectivity infrastructure in the area, with commuters seeking urgent repairs to restore safe and reliable movement along the route.
