Heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning led to severe flooding along National Highway 37 in Jorabat, Guwahati, causing significant disruption for commuters.
The deluge trapped a white Swift car and damaged a bus, creating hazardous conditions and necessitating the closure of the highway.
The flash flood was primarily caused by overflowing drains, which were filled with hill slopes, red soil, and debris, exacerbating the long-standing issue of drainage in the area.
Despite repeated incidents of flooding, authorities have yet to take substantial action to mitigate the problem.
The closure of NH 37, a critical route for daily commuters and transport vehicles, highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure improvements and effective drainage systems.
Residents expressed frustration over the lack of response from local authorities, who have been repeatedly alerted to the recurring issue but have not implemented any permanent solutions.
