Ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, prominent social worker and businessman Manaranjan Brahma formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 8 at a grand event held in Serfanguri, Kokrajhar, Assam. His induction was marked by a warm welcome from Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, with thousands of supporters in attendance.
This move follows BJP’s recent induction of Minon Mochahari, a well-known social worker from Udalguri, reflecting the party’s growing foothold in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as it gears up for the upcoming BTC elections in September.
The event witnessed a massive turnout, with at least 10,000 supporters accompanying Manaranjan Brahma. Several influential figures, including former BTC MCLA Indramahana Brahma and former NDFB leader Binaisa Brahma, also pledged their support to BJP, further solidifying the party’s position in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal emphasized the increasing support for BJP in BTR due to its commitment to peace and development. "Under BJP’s leadership, BTR has experienced stability and progress. People recognize our dedication to transforming the region, and we welcome everyone willing to contribute to this journey," he stated.
Manaranjan Brahma, in his speech, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting BJP’s role in ensuring sustainable peace and holistic development in BTR. "BJP is the only party that has genuinely worked for the welfare of this region. That’s why I, along with my supporters, have decided to join," he said. He also expressed his readiness to contest in the upcoming BTC elections if given an opportunity by the party leadership.
The grand event saw the presence of several key BJP leaders, including Kokrajhar district BJP president Gossai Basumatary, BTC Executive Member Sajal Singha, Arup Kumar Dey, MCLA Bijit Gwra Narzary, and Reoreoa Narzihary, among other state and district-level leaders.
