Assam State NSUI and Nagaon District NSUI on Sunday demanded a CBI and NIA investigation into alleged large-scale corruption in minority and Scheduled Caste student scholarships disbursed during 2017–18.
Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan in Nagaon, District NSUI president Pallavjyoti Nath alleged that a “well-organized nexus” siphoned off funds meant for students in at least 21 schools across Nagaon, Hojai, Morigaon, and Sonitpur districts.
He criticized the current CID-led probe for being “slow and ineffective,” alleging that political leaders’ involvement in the scam was being covered up.
Nath claimed that the scam had deprived genuine minority and Scheduled Caste students of their rightful scholarships. He further announced that the NSUI would use the Right to Information (RTI) Act to gather beneficiary lists and would conduct door-to-door verification to check if listed students actually received the funds.
The student organization insisted that only a central agency probe could ensure an impartial and thorough investigation, and vowed to continue pressuring the government for accountability.
