Assam: Numal Momin links police attack in Goalpara's Paikan to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘land for landless’ remark

Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin has strongly condemned the recent attack on police personnel by alleged miscreants in the Paikan area of Goalpara district, suggesting a direct link between the incident and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks during his Assam visit.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Numal Momin said, “Just yesterday, Rahul Gandhi stated that if Congress comes to power, they will distribute land to the landless and build their homes. Such statements are emboldening encroachers and undermining the rule of law. The attack on the police is a dangerous by-product of his visit.”

Numal Momin alleged that the Congress party is indirectly encouraging lawlessness and fostering sentiments against legally mandated enforcement actions. “This attack reflects the consequences of appeasement politics practiced by the Congress,” he added, emphasizing that the party harbors “a hidden agenda” that often results in destabilizing situations.

Calling for a thorough probe into the incident, Dr. Momin reiterated his support for the Assam Police and urged all political parties to refrain from making statements that could incite tensions or justify illegal occupations. “It is interesting to note that such aggression is taking place immediately after Rahul Gandhi’s visit. This cannot be seen as a coincidence,” he said.

The Paikan incident has triggered widespread debate, with security forces maintaining heightened vigilance in the region. Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identity or motive of the attackers.
