Assam: One arrested in Dhubri elderly couple attack; prime accused still at large

An elderly couple in Batuatuli, Dhubri was brutally attacked with sharp weapons, leaving them critically injured. 

Acting on a complaint, Golakganj police have arrested Saadek Ali, the brother of portal journalist Shahidul Haque, who is the prime accused in the case.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack was carried out by three brothers—Mohibul Haque, Saadek Haque, and Shahidul Haque—along with their mother, father, and sister. The assault, which took place on Monday, has sparked outrage in the local community.

A case has been registered at Golakganj police station (Case No. 64/25) under sections 189(2)/191(2)/191(3)/45/117(4)/109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following the complaint, police arrested Saadek Ali from his residence in Batuatuli.

Meanwhile, Shahidul Haque remains absconding, and authorities have intensified efforts to track him down. Residents have demanded strict action against all those involved in the attack.

Police officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to apprehend the remaining accused and ensure justice for the victims.
