Assam: Over 1.68 lakh voters to decide the fate of 44 candidates in RHAC elections

The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) Election is scheduled to take place tomorrow, April 2 across 14 council constituencies in Kamrup district. Voting will be conducted between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm in 209 designated polling stations, with 168,668 registered voters eligible to cast their ballots.

A total of 44 candidates are in the fray for the election, which is expected to witness a competitive contest. To ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process, the election authorities have deployed 1,020 presiding and polling officers across polling stations.

Notably, 10 polling stations will be exclusively managed by women personnel, while one polling station will be operated by specially-abled individuals, marking an inclusive approach towards the election process.

Security measures have been strengthened with the deployment of around 600 Assam Police personnel to maintain law and order. Additionally, due to the presence of some polling stations near the Assam-Meghalaya border, CRPF personnel have also been kept on standby to handle any contingencies.

Election officials commenced ballot paper distribution from the Kamrup District Integrated Office in Amingaon at 8:00 AM today. Polling officers, presiding officers, and security personnel have already departed for their respective polling stations with the necessary election materials.

The district administration has implemented comprehensive arrangements to facilitate a peaceful and orderly election process. A special control room has been established at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in Boko to oversee and manage election-related developments in real time.
