Assam: Padma Shri winner Dr. Ramkuiwangbe Newme accorded warm welcome in Dima Hasao

People of Assam's Dima Hasao district welcomed and felicitated Padma Shri Dr Ramkuiwangbe Newme who arrived in the district on April 8. 

Newme's name was announced for the Padma Shri for the year 2023 and on April 5 he received the prestigious award from the President of India in Delhi.  

''I want to tell the young generation that they too can achieve this feat if they work for society and for the country. I would also like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he is looking after the northeast,'' he said while speaking on the occasion.

After reaching Boro Haflong Dr. Newme first gave his tribute to the statue of Padma Bhushan Rani Ma Gaidinliu and after that, he participated in a rally which was organized for him by the people of several communities. 

Besides Newme, Assam’s Hemoprava Chutia and Hem Chandra Goswami have been too conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award for the year 2023.

Hemoprava Chutia (Art) and Hem Chandra Goswami (Art) were selected in recognition of their respective contributions to the field of art, social work, and public affairs from Assam.

For the year 2023, the President approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards including 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 91 Padma Shri Awards.
