Assam: Panchayat delegation attacked in Rupohihat, vehicles vandalized by miscreants

Tensions flared in the Singimari area of Rupohihat on Wednesday, July 23 after a group of miscreants allegedly attacked a delegation arriving for the formation of the Jiumari Gaon Panchayat.

 

According to reports, a team of members had arrived at the Singimari Development Block for official duties related to the Panchayat’s constitution when they were ambushed. Eyewitnesses stated that around 15 individuals, allegedly led by one Mojibur Rahman, carried out the assault using four vehicles.

 

In the course of the attack, at least two vehicles were extensively vandalized. One of the damaged vehicles has been identified by its registration number — AS01 BA 1626. The incident also left two women injured, both of whom were part of the visiting delegation.

 

Authorities are investigating the incident, and a case has been registered. Police presence has been intensified in the area to prevent any further escalation.

 

The motive behind the attack is believed to be politically driven, amid rising tensions related to the ongoing Panchayat formation process.
