Assam: Patient dies at Dibrugarh’s private nursing home, family alleges medical negligence

In a tragic incident, a man from Margherita has accused a private healthcare facility in Dibrugarh of gross negligence, resulting in the death of his father.

The allegations, which have sparked outrage and a call for judicial intervention, center around Magpins Nursing Home.

The complainant, Jitu Deka Phukan Roy, a resident of Changlang Tinali in Margherita under Tinsukia district, has lodged a formal complaint with the Barbari police station. Roy states that his father, Sudhanshu Debroy, was admitted to Magpins Nursing Home on July 6, following a serious deterioration in his health. Despite initially responding well to treatment, the elder Debroy tragically passed away on July 18 while still under the care of the facility.

According to Roy, the root cause of his father's death was the negligence of the nursing home staff. He pointed to a lack of proper monitoring in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where patients are supposed to be under constant observation. Roy alleges that this crucial protocol was not adhered to in his father's case, leading to the fatal outcome.

In a bid to prevent similar incidents in the future, Roy has appealed to the Assam Government to launch a judicial inquiry into the practices of Magpins Nursing Home. He believes that only through such scrutiny can accountability be established and other patients safeguarded from potential malpractice.

Efforts to reach out to the management of Magpins Nursing Home for their side of the story have been unsuccessful, as repeated attempts to contact them have gone unanswered.
