Assam: PHE workers intensify agitation in Sribhhumi over job regularisation, wage clarity
Temporary Jalmitras of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department held statewide demonstrations with a sit-in protest staged in front of PHE Minister Krishnendu Pal’s residence in Sribhumi, Assam.
The protestors, who have been demanding resolution of multiple employment-related grievances, raised slogans as they pressed for government attention.
During the demonstration, the Jalmitras submitted a memorandum outlining their key demands to the Minister’s personal secretary. Their demands reportedly include job regularisation, timely wage payment, and improved working conditions.
In a gesture aimed at easing tensions, Minister Krishnendu Pal later invited the protesting workers inside, interacted briefly with them, offered sweets, and formally saw them off. Officials said the discussion was cordial, though the demands are yet to be officially addressed.
Statewide protests by Jalmitras reflect growing discontent among temporary workers engaged in rural water supply and community-level operations under the PHE Department.
