Assam: Pistol recovered during pre-poll checking in Rupahihat, two miscreants on the run
In a significant development ahead of the upcoming elections, Rupahihat Police recovered a pistol and one round of ammunition during a routine checking drive on the Nagaon–Naltali state highway.
Police were conducting regular vehicle checks at Auni area when two unidentified miscreants, reportedly travelling on a motorcycle from Nagaon, sensed the ongoing operation. In an attempt to evade detection, the duo allegedly abandoned a bag by the roadside and fled the scene.
Local residents witnessed the incident and promptly alerted the police.
Upon reaching the spot, Rupahihat Police searched the bag and recovered a pistol along with one live round of ammunition.
A manhunt has been launched to trace the two accused, and further investigation is underway, police said.
