Silchar police apprehended two individuals allegedly practising dentistry without proper qualifications following a complaint from Dr Pradeep Kr Das of the Indian Dental Association, Assam State Branch.
The complaint, filed on September 2, highlighted the unchecked rise of unqualified persons offering dental services in the Silchar town area.
Based on the complaint, authorities prepared a list of suspected quack dentists and launched raids on two clinics: Hazari Dental Clinic and Mazumdar Dental Clinic, located at Tarapur India Club, Masjid Complex. During the operation, police found Kamrul Isam Hazari, 50, and Tinku Mazumdar, 53, attending to patients illegally as dental surgeons.
Police seized a doctor’s pad from Hazari containing his name and claimed educational qualifications, which are now under verification.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of illegal dental practices in the area.
