Assam police arrest 8 in Rs 1.5 crore highway loot case

Assam police arrested eight individuals linked to a daring highway robbery that occurred on the night of October 26 at Dharamtul, Morigaon.

The gang allegedly looted goods valued at over Rs 1.5 crore from a truck traveling along the national highway.

Under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samiran Baishya, the police launched a coordinated operation spanning multiple locations across Assam and other regions in India, leading to the arrests.

Preliminary investigations suggest the gang has been involved in similar highway robberies for an extended period, posing a persistent threat to logistics and transport along major routes.

Addressing the media on Saturday, ASP Samiran Baishya detailed the operation and assured that enhanced security measures are being implemented to curb such criminal activities on national highways. He emphasized the police's commitment to ensuring safer transit for goods and commuters across the state.
