Assam Police arrest mastermind behind sensational armed robbery at hotel owner's residence
Police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind a sensational robbery at the residence of the owner of Hotel Manbhori in Moran, bringing a major breakthrough in a case that had remained under investigation for more than a year.
The accused, identified as Pranjal Gogoi of Balijan Chapori in Chabua, was apprehended by Moran Police after remaining absconding for nearly 15 months.
According to police, the robbery took place around 15 months ago when a gang of armed robbers allegedly stormed into the residence of the hotel owner. The incident had triggered widespread concern in Moran due to the audacious nature of the crime.
During the robbery, the hotel owner reportedly managed to help apprehend one of the accused on the spot. Subsequent police investigations led to the arrest of several other members of the gang and the recovery of arms and ammunition allegedly used in the crime.
However, Pranjal Gogoi, who police describe as the key conspirator and mastermind behind the operation, had managed to evade arrest and remained on the run.
Following sustained efforts and intelligence-based operations, Moran Police finally tracked down and arrested Gogoi from Chabua. His arrest has been welcomed by the victim's family and local residents, who had been demanding action against all those involved in the case.
Police said Gogoi has been arrested in connection with Moran Police Station Case No. 9/25 registered under Sections 310(4) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 25(1A) of the Arms Act.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in any other criminal activities in the region.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for Moran Police in one of the area's most high-profile robbery cases in recent years.
