Assam police assure justice to family of youth killed in fatal accident involving magistrate's vehicle in Sribhumi
In a gesture of support following a fatal road accident, Sribhumi Police on Friday. April 24 visited the residence of Ajit Dhar at Vidyasagar Sarani to express condolences to his bereaved family. Dhar, 28, succumbed to injuries sustained in a collision involving a magistrate’s vehicle in the town a day earlier.
A police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan met the family and assured them that due legal action would be taken. Bhuyan stated that the police would ensure justice in the case and facilitate compensation for the family, noting that Dhar was the sole breadwinner.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Bimal Chettri and Traffic In-Charge Shankar Saha were also present during the visit.
According to officials, the accident occurred in a busy area of the town, where Dhar, who was riding a scooter, and Anupam Chakraborty, 70, sustained serious injuries after being hit by the vehicle. Both were initially referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital due to the severity of their condition. Dhar, however, died on the way to the hospital.
Chakraborty remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Silchar.
Bhuiya said that the investigation would proceed in accordance with the law, adding that the status of the vehicle’s owner would not affect the legal process. “Even if the vehicle belongs to a judicial officer, the law will take its own course,” he said.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability and providing necessary support to the victim’s family.
