Assam police crack highway streetlight theft case, recover 120 stolen lights; two arrested

In a major breakthrough, North Bongaigaon Outpost Police have arrested two persons in connection with a high-value streetlight theft case that took place along the National Highway, recovering 120 of the stolen lights.

The theft was reported on April 1 at Richa Infrastructure, where more than 200 expensive streetlights were allegedly stolen.

Following a sustained investigation, police arrested Mojeddin Ali, the truck driver, and Sahabuddin Ali, the owner of the truck allegedly used in the crime. Both are residents of Chirang district.

During the operation, police recovered 120 of the stolen streetlights and seized the truck bearing registration number AS 28 C 9455, which was allegedly used to transport the stolen items.

Police said more people are believed to be involved in the theft, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused.

The investigation is continuing to recover the remaining stolen property and identify the entire network involved in the theft.
