Assam Police raid Silchar mall spas, detain 26 women including minor
Assam Police detained more than 26 young women, including a minor, during simultaneous raids at two spa centres operating inside a mall in Silchar's Cachar district on the night of June 25, following allegations that the establishments were running a prostitution racket under the guise of massage services.
The raids were carried out by Assam Police at Lovely Spa and Lotus Spa after officers received multiple complaints and acted on specific intelligence regarding alleged illegal activities at the premises.
Those detained were sent for medical examination before being brought to Silchar Sadar Police Station for questioning. Assam Police said the investigation is focused on identifying the operators and other individuals allegedly involved in the network.
Investigators are also examining the spas' licences, business records and other documents to verify whether the establishments were operating in accordance with the law. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
Allegations of illegal activities at spa centres in Silchar have surfaced repeatedly over the years, with Assam Police conducting similar raids at several establishments across the town. Spa centres around the Club Road area have previously come under scrutiny over comparable complaints.
Following the latest operation, Assam Police are expected to step up surveillance and enforcement against illegal activities operating under the cover of commercial establishments in the district.
