Assam police seize drugs worth Rs 34 crore, 2 arrested

Sribhumi police intensified their anti-drug operations on the occasion of holi celebration, leading to a significant narcotics seizure and arrests.

 

Acting on intelligence inputs, a police team led by Sribhumi Police Superintendent Partha Pratim Das conducted a raid in the bypass area near Sribhumi city. During the operation, law enforcement officers intercepted a truck (AS01/LC/6436) originating from Champhai, Mizoram, and carried out a thorough search. Upon inspection, authorities uncovered 80,000 Yaba tablets concealed inside the vehicle’s gearbox.

 

The police apprehended two individuals, identified as Samim Uddin and Tanzil Abedin, both residents of Kalain, Cachar, on suspicion of drug trafficking. The estimated market value of the confiscated contraband is approximately ₹34 crores.

 

Superintendent Partha Pratim Das confirmed the arrests and the seizure, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling in the region. Further investigations are underway to trace the larger network behind the trafficking operation.
