Assam police seize large cache of counterfeit-note materials in Sivasagar
A major cache of materials allegedly used for printing counterfeit currency was seized during a police operation at Kareng Tiniyal in Assam’s Sivasagar, officials said on May 21.
The operation was carried out by the Sivasagar Sadar Police following specific inputs. Police recovered a large quantity of suspected counterfeit-note-making materials from the spot and also seized an e-rickshaw and a mini dumper allegedly used for transporting the items.
One person, identified as Arshad Ali of Islam Patti in Golaghat, was arrested in connection with the case. Police also detained e-rickshaw driver Mofizul Haque and mini dumper driver Bitul Barak for questioning.
Investigators are examining whether the two drivers had any direct link with the seized materials or with the arrested accused. Police said further details regarding the network and the intended use of the materials would emerge during the course of the investigation.
Officials added that the seized items have been sent for examination, while further inquiry is underway to determine if more people were involved in the alleged operation.
