Assam: Polling begins for BTC elections with strong voter response
Voting for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections got underway at 7:30 am today across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
From the start of polling, voters turned up in large numbers, with long queues reported at several booths.
The elections are being conducted in 40 constituencies spread over Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Udalguri districts.
A total of 316 candidates are contesting, with Kokrajhar fielding the highest number at 100. Udalguri has 68 candidates, Chirang 56, Baksa 52, and Tamulpur 40.
To ensure smooth polling, 3,359 polling stations have been set up. The entire region has been placed under heavy security cover, with additional deployment in sensitive areas to maintain order and ensure fair voting.
