Assam Polls: Badruddin Ajmal attacks CM, says ‘Himanta’s dominance won’t work, ours will’

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Badruddin Ajmal on March 26 launched a sharp political attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, asserting that the latter’s “strong-arm politics” will not work in Assam in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Addressing an election rally at Kaki Tongia Bazaar under the 62 No. Binnakandi constituency, Ajmal said, “This time, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s dominance will not prevail in Assam. Our dominance will prevail.” He made the remarks while campaigning as the AIUDF’s nominated candidate.

The rally assumes significance as it marks the party’s first major campaign in the area following the recent delimitation, under which Kaki Tongia Gaon Panchayat—earlier part of the Lumding constituency—has now been included in Binnakandi.

Ajmal also launched a scathing attack on Lurinjyoti Gogoi and the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), alleging that during the anti-CAA movement, people of the Binnakandi constituency were subjected to harassment. He claimed that the AJP would face rejection in the constituency, remarking that its “boat will capsize” in Binnakandi.

On the issue concerning Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, Ajmal stated that justice must be ensured, adding to the growing political discourse around the matter.

The statements reflect intensifying rhetoric in Lower Assam as political parties step up campaigning ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
