Assam: Power line worker electrocuted in Silchar, family seeks compensation and job for wife
A power line worker died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while carrying out work in the Dak Bungalow area, around three kilometres from Assam University in Silchar, on July 23.
The deceased has been identified as Manju Gopal Kurmi, who had got married just two months ago. His death has left his family in distress, with relatives, neighbours and local residents gathering at his residence following the incident.
According to family members, Kurmi was one of the primary earning members of the household. They have demanded adequate compensation from the concerned electricity department and sought a compassionate appointment for his wife, stating that the family is now facing financial hardship.
His wife, whom he married two months ago, is among those seeking support following the incident.
Local residents have also called for a fair and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution and urged the authorities to take appropriate action. The administration and the concerned department are yet to respond to the family's demands.
