Assam: Public outrage in Bongaigaon after police officer’s vehicle kills teenage girl

A fatal accident involving a police officer’s personal vehicle led to widespread unrest in Bongaigaon, as locals protested against the tragic death of a teenage girl.

The incident took place in the heart of the town, where the officer, responsible for traffic control, reportedly lost control of his vehicle and fatally hit the young girl. Following the accident, angered residents took to the streets, demanding justice and immediate action against the responsible officer.

Protesters surrounded the Bongaigaon Sadar Police Station while simultaneously blocking key roads in the town, intensifying tensions. The growing unrest saw hundreds of demonstrators rallying for strict punishment against the accused officer.

Responding to public outrage, Superintendent of Police Mohanlal Meena suspended the officer in question, Nileshwar Medhi. Additionally, the district administration has extended immediate financial assistance to the victim’s family as part of its relief measures.

The situation remains sensitive, with security forces closely monitoring developments to prevent further escalation.
