Assam Railway Police arrest four Bangladeshi nationals at New Bongaigaon station
Amidst ongoing tensions in Bangladesh, the Assam Railway Police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals today at New Bongaigaon Railway Station.
The arrests were made based on confidential intelligence that led to a targeted operation. The individuals were detained from a train arriving from Tripura. The group comprises three young women and one young man, who were traveling illegally into Assam.
Reports indicate that the young man had crossed the Tripura border and paid ₹25,000 to brokers to navigate through the jungle route into India. The three women had each paid Rs 15,000 to the same network of brokers. They said that they had come to Assam seeking employment due to the escalating crisis in their home country.
The incident is part of a broader trend, with a total of 11 Bangladeshi nationals having entered Assam via Tripura recently.
