Assam: Rajya Sabha MP Rameswar Teli visits Margherita as panchayat poll momentum builds

Margherita is witnessing heightened political activity as preparations intensify for the upcoming Panchayat elections. On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Rameswar Teli visited the local BJP office, marking a key moment in the constituency’s pre-election phase.

His arrival coincided with the scrutiny of nomination papers, attracting a significant turnout of BJP candidates and supporters. The Margherita constituency includes 13 Panchayats, 4 Zilla Parishad seats, and 130 Ward Member positions, making it a focal point in Assam’s rural electoral landscape.

Teli addressed party workers and expressed confidence in the BJP’s grassroots network. “We aim to secure all 13 Panchayats and 4 Zilla Parishad seats,” he said, crediting the party’s performance at both the state and central levels. He emphasised that the BJP’s developmental record and local outreach would be central to its campaign strategy.

With the nomination deadline set for April 11, candidates from various parties are actively filing their papers. Political offices in the region have seen a steady stream of visitors as supporters and aspirants gear up for what is expected to be a closely contested local election.
