Assam: Rangia railway police seize Rs 1.25 crore worth of morphine, one arrested

In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Rangiya Railway Police arrested a man with 2.5 kilograms of morphine worth Rs 1.25 crore during a late-night operation on the Down Avadh Assam Express near Namnimua.

Acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, the police launched a targeted search and apprehended the accused, identified as Rabiranjan Kumar, a resident of Madhubani district in Bihar. He was found in possession of the banned substance while allegedly attempting to smuggle it from Dimapur, Nagaland, to Bihar.

According to officials, the seized morphine is a highly regulated narcotic and its possession without authorization is a serious criminal offense. The incident highlights a growing trend of drug trafficking through railway routes in Northeast India.

The arrested individual is currently being interrogated for more information regarding the source, destination, and network involved in the smuggling operation. Authorities suspect a larger interstate racket and further investigations are underway.

Rangiya Railway Police have stepped up surveillance across trains and railway stations in the region to prevent similar smuggling attempts in the future.
