Assam: Residents allege fresh encroachment, construction on government and Sattra land in Dhing
Residents of Balisatra and adjoining areas of Dumdumia in Nagaon’s Dhing have raised concerns over alleged fresh encroachment and construction on government and Sattra land, claiming that the activities have created fear and insecurity among indigenous residents.
According to local residents, three Sattras in the area are facing threats from alleged encroachment. They have specifically alleged encroachment activities involving individuals identified as Raihan Uddin and Motibur Rahman.
Residents claim that concrete houses are being constructed on allegedly encroached land even in broad daylight. Visuals purportedly showing construction activities have also surfaced.
One of the sites identified by residents is the Sri Sri Banshibadan Bansigopal Murti Upar Dumdumia Sattra, where they allege that concrete structures and a large building have been constructed on Sattra land.
Residents have further alleged that land previously cleared during an eviction drive by the Nagaon district administration around six months ago is once again witnessing construction activities.
A separate concrete structure is also allegedly being built on government land by a person identified as Motibur Rahman.
The allegations have raised questions among locals over how construction has resumed on land that was reportedly cleared during an earlier eviction drive and whether any permission was granted for the construction.
Residents have appealed to the Nagaon district administration to intervene, conduct an inquiry into the alleged encroachments and take appropriate action to protect government and Sattra land.
