Assam: Residents allege misappropriation of funds, incomplete road works in Nagaon's Juria panchayat

Residents of Mahguri Panchayat in Assam's Nagaon district have alleged irregularities in the execution of two rural road projects, claiming that the works remain incomplete despite the full withdrawal of government funds sanctioned for their construction.

The allegations relate to the construction of CC block roads in Wards No. 9 and 10 of the panchayat under the Juria Development Block.

According to local residents, the government had sanctioned Rs 7 lakh for one road and Rs 4 lakh for another. They alleged that the projects were executed under the supervision of Anarul Islam, the husband of Mahguri Panchayat councillor Suriya Khatun.

The residents alleged that the sanctioned amount was withdrawn by submitting forged documents even though the construction work was not completed, resulting in the alleged misappropriation of public funds.

Following the alleged irregularities, residents said they submitted a written complaint to the Juria Development Block Officer, seeking an inquiry into the matter and action against those responsible. They, however, claimed that no action has been initiated so far despite the complaint.

The incomplete condition of the roads has also drawn criticism from local residents, who alleged that the projects are an example of poor implementation of development schemes in the area.

The residents have now sought the intervention of higher authorities, demanding a detailed investigation into the alleged financial irregularities and appropriate action against those found responsible.
