Assam: Retired government official and wife attacked, robbed by former caretaker in Nagaon’s Morikalong

A retired education department employee and his wife were brutally attacked and robbed inside their home at Morikalong, near Nagaon town.

The victims, identified as Harendra Nath Bora and Dipti Bora, were reportedly assaulted with a sharp weapon by their former caretaker, Prabhat Hazarika, who later fled the scene with cash and valuables.

According to police sources, Hazarika had been living with the elderly couple for some time and had previously worked as their caretaker. Preliminary reports suggest that he may have carried out the attack with the intention of robbery.

Both Harendra Nath Bora and his wife sustained serious injuries during the assault and are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable but under close observation.

Local residents expressed shock and outrage over the incident, describing the couple as humble and well-respected members of the community. Police have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the accused.

Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), and an investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances leading to the violent robbery.
