Assam: Robbery near Barpeta Superintendent of Police's office stirs concern
Burglary occurred in close proximity to the Barpeta Superintendent of Police's office on September 6. The theft took place near the PWD office on the Barpeta-Sundaridiya road and involved the looting of Sundaridiya Satra, a place of religious significance, along with three neighboring shops.
The thieves looted not only cash but also sacred items. At Namghar, they broke into the donation boxes of the scriptures laboratory, stealing money.
They raided a stationery store, a grocery shop, and a computer store near the SP office. However, it's important to note that the thieves solely focused on looting cash and did not take anything else.
Shop owners in the area expressed their worry about the increasing frequency of such incidents. One shop owner shared, "There was a theft in three other shops as well, including this Namghar. Actually, the thing is, the Superintendent of Police's office is nearby, only around 200 meters away. Earlier, two thefts happened, but there was no action from the police. Even shops near the police station are not safe. Three shops were stolen, and earlier, theft had occurred in this Namghar as well. The thieves took money from Namghar and three other shops."
