A sudden downpour accompanied by a storm wreaked havoc at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on March 31 leading to a roof collapse in the forecourt area.
According to airport authorities, the weather event caused significant damage, particularly in the forecourt area where an aged section of the roof succumbed to the force of the storm. The airport ceiling gave way, allowing rainwater to cascade into the terminal. There were no reported injuries.
Videos capturing the scene of the ceiling collapsing and water inundating the airport quickly circulated on various social media platforms.
The repercussions of the natural disaster were felt deeply by passengers, many of whom found themselves stranded amidst the chaos. The flooding inside the terminal not only disrupted travel plans but also posed logistical challenges for airport personnel who worked to mitigate the damage.
