Assam: Rs 1.9 crore worth Primary Health Centre in Dhubri lays abundant, turns into gambling zone
A newly constructed Primary Health Centre in the Dhubri district has turned into a gambling zone, even after five years of completion of work. The health centre remains abundant and non-operational leaving villagers impoverished and discarded.
A health centre in Dhubri has revealed the fictitious characteristics of government failure at a time when the state government and health department have established multiple new medical colleges to deliver surprises.
The health department of Dhubri has failed to engage health-related officials at the Kacharihat Primary Health Centre for the last five years, which is situated in Dhubri district. Due to such negligence of the government, the health centre has now turned into a gambling zone for few miscreants.
More than 15,000 people live in the GP, and in an emergency, they must drive 15 kilometres to the closest health facility, Dharmasala Block PHC, according to President Nur Zamal Shiekh of the gaon panchayat.
Additionally, in critical circumstances, the people are forced to drive 25 kilometres to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital in order to receive better medical treatment. The government policy has left the locals disheartened in many cases.
For the benefit of their future generations, the gaon panchayat's people have not seen the health centre gate open in the last five years, despite having primary health centre in Kacharihat itself, according to Nur Zamal Shiekh.
The Kacharihat Primary Health Centre work was began on March 1, 2014 and the contractor handed over the health centre to the health department of Dhubri on October 26, 2018, after completing the construction process as per official guidelines.
The non-functional medical facility's two additional sections, the OPD and IPD, as well as the nurse's and doctor's quarters, are all in broken shape. A homeless individual stays for an extended period of time in one of the spacious quarters.
The health department's attempt to emphasise the value of diagnosis in enhancing patient treatment has failed due to neglect and overreaction, setting an undesirable example for the Dhubri district.
