Assam: Seven held in Nagaon hotel gambling raid; journalist alleges assault attempt

Seven persons were detained after Nagaon Police raided an alleged gambling den operating from a hotel in the town on June 25.
 

Police said the gambling activities were being conducted on the fifth floor of Hotel Blue Bird. During the raid, officers seized cash and gambling-related materials from the premises. The amount of cash recovered was not immediately disclosed.
 

According to the police, Manjit Sharma and Amit Roy have been accused of operating the alleged gambling den. The hotel is owned by Partha Saikia.
 

The operation followed information received by the police regarding the alleged gambling activities at the hotel.
 

Meanwhile, a journalist who had gone to cover the police action alleged that some of those present attempted to assault the reporter and damage the camera while the incident was being documented.
 

Police are investigating the case and are expected to initiate further legal action based on the findings.
