Assam shocker: Man allegedly throws 7-year-old niece in Kolong River over family feud, arrested

A deeply disturbing incident has sent shockwaves through the Samaguri area of Nagaon district, after a 7-year-old girl was allegedly thrown into the Kolong River by her maternal uncle, leading to her tragic death.

The minor victim, identified as Gouri Priya Das, a resident of Barhola village in Kathiatoli, had reportedly been visiting her maternal relatives in Chamguri’s Khatual Borbheti during her school holidays.

The accused, Bikash Das, who is said to be employed in the Health Department, allegedly committed the act on July 25 when the girl's father, accompanied by two uncles and her grandfather, arrived to bring her back home.

According to eyewitness accounts, Bikash Das lifted the child in his arms, walked her to the riverbank, and in a shocking turn of events, threw her into the Kolong River under mysterious circumstances.

Locals who witnessed the horrifying incident immediately rushed to rescue the girl and managed to pull her out of the water. She was swiftly taken to the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital (NMCH). Despite efforts to save her, Gouri succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted.

The incident caused widespread panic and emotional unrest in the locality. Residents expressed deep anger and demanded strict punishment for the accused.

Following the crime, Bikash Das allegedly fled the scene, but was later apprehended by Khatual Police, who have now launched a detailed investigation into the case. The motive behind the act remains unclear, and authorities are actively interrogating the suspect.

The case has not only stunned the local community but has also sparked a demand for swift justice for the minor, with several locals calling for stringent legal action against the perpetrator.
