Assam signs MoU for Rs 1,200 crore e-methanol project, 3,500 jobs to follow
Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APL), a state government undertaking, on January 29 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, Gujarat, to set up an E-Methanol Plant, marking a key push towards green energy and port-linked industrial development.
The project, with an investment exceeding Rs 1,200 crore, is expected to generate around 3,500 direct and indirect jobs. The MoU was signed in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh.
The proposed E-Methanol plant will produce green methanol, a low-carbon fuel seen as a sustainable alternative for maritime shipping and industrial use. Officials highlighted that the project supports India’s national decarbonisation goals, promotes clean fuels, and boosts port-led industrial growth, while opening new avenues for Assam’s industrial expansion.
