In response to persistent heavy rainfall and the rising water level of the Harang River, authorities have suspended vehicular movement along the Silchar-Kalain National Highway.
The decision comes as a precautionary measure due to the deteriorating condition of a temporary diversion road at Bhangapar, which now faces an imminent risk of collapse.
The diversion road was constructed a few months ago after the original bridge over the Harang River at Bhangapar became non-operational.
Though intended as a temporary alternative to facilitate ongoing repair work, the diversion route is now at risk of being washed away due to the surging river level.
Local administration and road authorities are closely monitoring the situation as connectivity between Silchar and Kalain remains disrupted. The shutdown is expected to remain in effect until the weather improves and a thorough safety inspection is conducted.
The original bridge has reportedly been in a state of disrepair for an extended period, prompting repeated demands from locals for a permanent solution. Authorities have urged commuters to avoid the route and seek alternate paths until further notice.
